JSC Bank of Georgia (BOG)

This project was initiated to overcome difficulties caused by global COVID-19 pandemic. Namely, following the situation created in the country due to the pandemic, the bank deemed it obligatory to contribute to combating the pandemic and support the healthcare system in terms of social responsibility. Covid-19 first was tested positive in Georgia in late February 2020, when getting ready for the pandemic was one of the key challenges for the country.

Through consulting with the Ministry of Health Care and National center for Diseases Control and Public Health, the needs for the country’s healthcare system were identified – necessary number of respiratory devices, PCR tests, facemasks and gloves.

On the basis of its own initiative, BOG purchased the items in demand, located the supplier and made financial investment. The project involved 7 BOG employees from various departments. The project was implemented through partnership with the Ministries of Healthcare and Foreign Affairs, as well as other state bodies.

Under the project, BOG purchased items required by the Ministry of Healthcare – 20,000 PCR tests, 10 respiratory devices, 60,000 medical gloves and 50,000 facemasks – and fully transferred them to the Ministry to enable the latter efficiently continue fighting against the virus.

The project enabled to mobilize tests and necessary items at the initial stage of the pandemic, which assisted the healthcare system to more efficiently manage the first stage of the pandemic.
