JSC Bank of Georgia (BOG)

The worldwide pandemic created a number of new issues for Georgia, but the education system in the country turned out to be facing extraordinary challenges. Transfer to online learning during lockdown was complicated for school children and university students. Considering the problems generally present in Georgian education system and economic condition in general, the schools and universities had no experience or ready system to transfer the entire studies onto online mode.

The purpose of the project is to facilitate online learning process during the pandemic. In order to achieve this goal, the maximum possible number of adolescents and youths need to have access to online learning in various ways. The project commenced in April 2020 and is still successfully going on.

For this purpose, Bank of Georgia together with Charte.ge provided access to the internet to 300 socially vulnerable students, who had had no internet, and covered internet consumption fee for one year, enabling the students to continue studies online; purchased and transferred free of charge Zoom Education license to I. Javakhishhvili Tbilisi State University to run the classes online. As a result, 68,912 sessions (lectures, seminars, workshops) were held. Through collaboration between Tsignis Taro (book shelf) and BOG, an informal online school was established offering free, additional, lessons to elementary school children during lockdown. Tsignis Taro’s online school started in three seasons and is still going on. As a result now it has 1,383 registered and actively involved students.

Through the project, as of today, 779,530 university students and school children consumed the listed and other projects supportive to the education system.
