Alte University
"Technovation Girls" is an international educational program focused on technology and entrepreneurship, designed to empower girls aged 13 to 18 to become future tech entrepreneurs and leaders. The project aims to cultivate girls' interest in technology from a young age and establish the groundwork for technological and entrepreneurial education, ultimately encouraging careers in STEM fields.
Since 2016, the "Technovation Girls" program has been running in Georgia. In 2023, Alte University became the official representative of the program in Georgia, with 550 school students and 150 volunteer mentors participating throughout the country.
Alte University professors conducted workshops and lectures for the participants, guiding them through the process of identifying community problems, developing technological solutions, preparing business plans, creating mobile application prototypes, utilizing artificial intelligence models, and presenting their projects through recorded videos with the assistance of mentors. As a result, 60 projects were created, leading Georgia to rank 10th among countries worldwide. Notably, the girls' team from Fari and Tsageri schools emerged as the European champions in the junior category.
In 2023, the program concluded with a technology camp attended by 200 girls along with their mentors. Alte University provided significant funding for both the regional competition and the camp. Additionally, the TBC Youth Development Program donated 10,000 GEL, and the project itself received 5,000 GEL as the Grace Hopper Award for Technological Empowerment of Women. The Skills Agency supported the project, and with their assistance, "Aisi" college in Kakheti provided space for the camp free of charge.
The final survey revealed that the majority of participants in the project are interested in pursuing STEM careers. Notably, participants from the previous year returned as mentors and volunteers, underscoring the project's sustainability through its volunteer structure and university support.
In 2024, the number of participants increased by 20%, and there are plans to establish regional chapters in the coming year, further expanding the project's reach and impact.
