Caucasus University (CU)
It is the great honor of Caucasus University to promote the restoration of Georgia's territorial integrity through education, to create equal educational conditions for schoolchildren and students from occupied Abkhazia, to increase the resilience of people living in Abkhazia and to constantly remind the rest of Georgia that Abkhazia is Georgia.
About 600 ethnically Georgian young people arrive from Abkhazia every year who do not have appropriate education, are socially vulnerable and do not have access to various services, including education. In order to solve this problem, the Caucasus University cooperates with the Ministry of Education and Culture of Abkhazia, the National University of Georgia, the Gali Jazz organization and others.
In 2021, Caucasus University started a new project called We Hear a Voice from Abkhazia. The main target groups of the project are schoolchildren and their parents living in Abkhazia.
Caucasus University is implementing the following activities as a part of the project: students from Abkhazia study in any program at the university completely free of charge, schools in occupied Abkhazia were provided with projectors and unlimited internet and laptops were distributed to students. About 300 gift boxes containing the land of Abkhazia and branded items with the inscription "Knowledge is the precursor of freedom” were sent to project partners. The purpose of this activity was to remind society about the problems in occupied Abkhazia and for the population living there. Caucasus University financed the renovation of the Public School of Abkhazia building, located in Tbilisi, and every year it provides it with various donated supplies. The Caucasus University sponsors the literary competition, Let's Talk about Abkhazia, whose purpose is to raise awareness among teenagers about conflict zones and occupation. Collections of literary texts created by school students were published with the funding of the university. On the initiative of the students of Caucasus University, the Here, Now for Freedom organization was created with members made up of university students and lecturers. The organization founded the English Language School where 25-30 young people from Abkhazia will learn English as a foreign language with the support of Tbilisi City Hall. Caucasus University also supports various projects implemented by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Abkhazia.
The awareness of the problems that are everyday life for the Georgian people in occupied Abkhazia has increased as a result of the project.
Three young people from Abkhazia became students of Caucasus University in 2021, while in 2022, this number grew to nine students.
The number of students wishing to use the mobility opportunity for the spring semester has been increased, and the degree of involvement of partner companies in all directions related to the activities around Abkhazia also grew.
Most schoolchildren living in the occupied territory of Abkhazia already have access to electronic educational resources.
