Environmental Responsibility

APM Terminals is committed to protecting the environment and continuously promotes the environmentally sound management of its port operations while encouraging the optimal use of natural resources.

Globally, the company’s core strategy is the decarbonization of the shipping industry. The company is intensifying its efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.

APM Terminals uses the following methods to reduce its environmental impact: the research and assessment of environmental conditions in the harbor's area of influence, monitoring of atmospheric quality, wastewater and seawater monitoring, measures to limit and decarbonize greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere.

APM Terminals Poti invests in safer, better, and bigger operations. The modernization of existing infrastructure and equipment at Georgia’s largest port is increasing capacity, improving safety and efficiency, and reducing environmental impact.

Responsibility Towards Employees

The global team has established the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to promote work-life balance. The EAP is accessible to both employees and their family members, providing counseling, guidance, and tools for emotional support, legal support, financial support, and online support.

The company provides health insurance for employees, English lessons for employees' children, food vouchers for employees, 126 days of paid maternity leave, extra leave days for marriage, childbirth, and the death of a family member. An Emergency Response Fund, initiated by employees, provides financial support to those whose family members need emergency medical treatment.

Employees have access to extensive training through platforms like Mylearning and Cornerstone, and locally provided sessions. About 25 different types of trainings are provided annually, including Medical First Aid, Fire Prevention, Electrical Safety Training, the ConQuip license program, Excel, and other MS programs. Regular recertification for sailors is available.

Responsibility in the Marketplace

The company has dedicated sales and customer service teams responsible for managing the full sales and after-sales process. Safety teams ensure that all personnel are fully trained in safety compliance, and visitors must complete safety instruction before being granted entry to the port. The company works to establish end-to-end visibility on supplier ESG performance, with a prioritized focus on decarbonization, safety and security, labor and human rights.

The company conducts a quarterly customer satisfaction survey, followed by face-to-face meetings to address and resolve any issues raised. Customer communication is managed through multiple channels, including face-to-face interactions, email, and telephone. Identifying customer needs and creating services to fulfill those needs are handled through close consultative interaction with potential customers.

Supporting Communities

APM Terminals Poti's corporate sustainability strategy is based on four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Zero Hunger, Quality Education, Gender Equality, and Climate Action. As a large organization, APM Terminals Poti historically stands out for its high level of corporate social responsibility. The Port of Poti has been contributing to local needs and supporting the community for many years, addressing both short-term and long-term needs.

The terminal has implemented several initiatives, including the talent attraction and development program "In Port" and the first job and career forum, which brought together about 20 companies and organizations. Single-use plastic has been banned in the workplace. For the first time in Poti, the terminal initiated a program to support small entrepreneurs. The company finances a local children’s day center and shelter, as well as an eparchy canteen for vulnerable families. The company maintains active communication with the local municipality, media and civil society organization representatives.
