Polyvim LLC
Polyvim has embarked on a comprehensive initiative to address the critical issue of plastic waste in Georgia. The project began in 2020 with focus on recycling Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and expanded in 2023 to cover the recycling for Polypropylene (PP) and Polyethylene (PE) thus covering a broader range of waste.
The project aims to reduce plastic pollution by increasing the recycling of plastic materials and promoting environmental consciousness, thus also addressing the problem of plastic waste accumulation and the scarcity of raw materials due to inadequate recycling awareness and practices.
For the project, Polyvim adopted a multifaceted approach:
- The company expanded its recycling operations in partnerships with TBC Bank and Enterprise Georgia and nearing an arrangement with EBRD.
- Through the Green Revolution Initiative, Polyvim engaged around 70 companies, offering free waste collection services to promote recycling culture among businesses.
- To incentivize public participation, Polyvim purchases plastic bottles at 1 GEL per kg, encouraging waste separation and supporting local startups.
- Collaborating with partners like Ecocenter, Polyvim implemented programs in schools to raise awareness about recycling and sustainability from an early age.
The impact of these initiatives was significant. About 60 tons of plastic waste are collected monthly, preventing it from ending up in landfills. The company sources 100% of its recyclables locally, with 98% of recycled PET exported and 80% of PP and PE materials used by local manufacturers, promoting a circular economy and supporting local economic growth. The involvement of local businesses and educational institutions has been crucial, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
