Irao

In 2021, the company launched the Protect, Recycle, Save! project which is being implemented in cooperation with a network of non-governmental organizations (CENN – Caucasus Environmental NGO Network). The project is targeted at changing environmental behavior and increasing awareness, firstly among the company’s personnel and then using them to ultimately share the newly acquired knowledge with the country’s future generation.

During the two-year term of the project, we increased environmental awareness among our 300 employees and up to 500 school children. The knowledge obtained at the training sessions enabled Irao employees to also become trainers and share information with the new generation.

On the basis of the new knowledge, employees became eco-friendlier and a green policy was introduced into the office. Personnel were provided with reusable bottles and fabric bags, thereby enabling them to replace PET bottles, single-use cups and plastic bags. Thus, plastic consumption was minimalized in the office. The so-called Green Boxes were also placed in the office where staff can sort waste that will eventually be properly recycled.

As a result of changes in the internal policy, Irao will cut down the annual number polyethylene bags by 33,120 owing to the reduction in the number of waste bins. For clarity, the total amount of these bags in size covers more than the area of Tbilisi’s Dinamo stadium.

In order to reduce the consumption of paper, the practice of switching to electronic documents is actively underway, something which saves about 50,000 pages of printing annually.

The Irao company is using the changes in its internal policy to minimize any negative environmental impact, thereby setting an example for other representatives of the private sector to become more friendly to the environment.
